What led us here

A mix of serendipity and six intense years as IoDF, and collectively more than twenty years as founders, innovating from within one of the most competitive industries in the world.

For years we've moved between technology and fashion, identifying the industry's biggest challenges and building real business use cases to solve them alongside brands, institutions and consumers. What we know deeply is how culture and technology are incubated. We understand the grit behind the glamour, because we've lived it.

“Our mission is to turn ownership into responsibility, connection and lasting value. To create a world where every product tells a story, builds a relationship and leaves a lighter footprint.”

Why now

The turning point came when the EU passed the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which introduces Digital Product Passports for products sold in the EU, with textiles among the first product groups. It was a well-deserved response to years of greenwashing, and it accelerated what we were already building. It confirmed something we had long believed: compliance could become the foundation for something far more valuable.

The products people already own can carry more value, offer better services and build longer relationships between brands, owners and the planet. That is post-purchase commerce, and it's why PATINA was born.

Why the name PATINA

A patina is what an object earns through time, use and care: the sheen on old leather, the surface that develops on bronze, the piece passed from one owner to the next that means more each time it changes hands. It can't be manufactured and it can't be bought new.

The name reflects our founding belief that products should become more valuable through their history, not less. Ownership doesn't end at the point of purchase. It becomes an evolving relationship between product, customer and brand, built into the infrastructure itself.

“We are not your average technology company. Our mission has always been bigger than building software. We want to make sustainability desirable, accessible and culturally relevant, and to create human technology that puts people and the planet first.”
